GloPID-R is pleased to welcome the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development (ZonMw), represented by Suzanne Verver, into the network. GloPID-R is a unique international network of major research funding organizations. The network of 27 countries facilitates a rapid and effective research response to infectious disease outbreaks.
ZonMw is one of the signatories of the Global Health Pact. On 28 September 2023, ZonMw director Véronique Timmerhuis added her signature to this pact, together with more than 20 other parties who are active in the field of global health.
ZonMw has been funding the Oncode Institute on behalf of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport since its establishment in 2017. It is a research institute that brings together more than 800 researchers from 13 Dutch partner institutions.- In Europe, as well as globally, we face a number of societal challenges that no country or region can tackle alone. Addressing these so-called Grand Societal Challenges efficiently and effectively requires combined efforts and new ways of collaboration between countries.
We have commissioned the GO FAIR Initiative to implement the first steps of VODAN. VODAN stands for Virus Outbreak Data Access Network. This implementation network aims to shape data about the current corona virus outbreak in a way that makes them accessible for learning-algorithms (according to the Personal Health Train principle).
31 research teams will be able to start their project thanks to funding from the ZonMw Competition round 2021, which has a total budget of €24.2 million. Each research team will receive an average of €750,000 for their project. Six of the research teams will receive an additional €250,000 for investment in infrastructure.
Fifteen recently graduated scholars can do their research at foreign research institutes thanks to a Rubicon grant from NWO and ZonMw. For many researchers, experience abroad is an important step in their career. The Rubicon programme gives young, highly promising researchers the opportunity to gain international research experience.
