Open Access publishing ensures that research is quickly and easily accessible. During the coronavirus pandemic, the importance of that has become clearer than ever before. For example, doctors and patients search for information about the treatment of COVID-19. Eleven projects by excellent research groups have been awarded a TOP grant. This will allow them to revitalise their lines of research and enter into new collaborations. They will receive up to €675,000 for research lasting at least four and no more than five years. - Afbeelding

The second round of the new programme ZonMw Open Competition will open On 20 February instead of 23 January. The deadline for the first phase of project ideas will be 16 April 2020. The deadline for submitting full proposals will also shift, namely to 15 September 2020. Prof. M.A. (Arfan) Ikram (1980) will become the new President of ZonMw with effect from 1 August 2022. At that moment, he will also become a member of the NWO Executive Board. - Afbeelding
Two Dutch research groups and industry will jointly develop animal-free innovations via the ZonMw call Create2Solve. Over the next five years, the projects will focus on a 3D model of human brain cells and a better test method for potentially toxic substances. The projects will contribute to limiting the use of laboratory animals in both industry and science.
