From today onwards, research institutions together with (public) institutions and businesses or local governments can jointly submit funding proposals to quickly tackle a practical problem related to the coronavirus crisis and the measures taken against that. Researchers from the Science (ENW), Applied and Engineering Sciences (AES) and Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) domains, as well as Health, Research and Development (ZonMw) will receive Vidi grants of up to 800,000 euro. On behalf of the Netherlands, we are part of the international partnership Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance (JPIAMR), currently a collaboration between 28 member countries. Many projects funded under the framework of the JPIAMR already resulted in outstanding publications that range over One Health areas (Human, Animal, Environment). Animal research often fails to predict human responses and raises ethical concerns about the morality of using animals for experiments.
