We are pleased to open this joint transnational research call about One Health interventions to prevent or reduce the development and transmission of antibiotic resistance. The call, has financial support from the European Commission, and include some 30 funding organisations from 21 JPIAMR member countries. The total estimated call budget is 24.9 million Euro. - Bacteria are increasingly becoming resistant to antibiotics. This is an immediate threat to health care in the Netherlands and elsewhere. Recent studies show that, in Europe alone, more than 30.000 individuals die every year due to an infection with an antibiotic-resistant bacterium.AimThis project studied the pathways by which resistant bacteria can emerge in complex ecosystems, in which they can…
- More and more animal manure is being processed before it is applied to land.AimIn ARMIS, RIVM together with WUR and international partners investigated the extent to which manure processing can reduce antibiotic resistance. Measurements were conducted in Canada, Romania, Germany and the Netherlands.ResultsComposting, fermentation, biological and large-scale treatment can reduce the amount of…
- Read how the COMBAT-AMR project will develop a standardised toolbox specifically for designing antibiotic combination treatments.
- Read how researchers will create an implementation tool to improve compliance with infection prevention measures by physicians in hospitals.
- Read how researchers will determine if the use of biocides has a selective effect on antimicrobial resistance.

On Wednesday, 22 June 2022, ZonMw organised a meeting about making data FAIR in the projects about antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and infectious disease control (IDC). These themes are closely related, and new funding rounds will soon open for both. The aim of this meeting was to inform project leaders, researchers and data stewards and to hear about their experiences with making their data… - Urgent action is required to stem the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). However, because the pace of novel drug development lags behind the evolution of novel AMR determinants, new strategies of containment are required.MethodIn this multinational project proposal, researchers have worked on a resistance-reversal strategy based on the concept of collateral sensitivity (CS). CS between a…
- Infections caused by bacteria resistant to most antibiotics (so-called multidrug resistant bacteria) remain a global problem. The lack of new antibiotics is a major social problem and threat to human and animal health.AimIn this antimicrobial discovery project, researchers focused on developing novel antibiotics for the highly virulent and antibiotic-resistant human pathogens (called the ESKAPE…
