ZonMw Gender and Health will provide Gender in Research Fellowships for PhD-students and post-doctoral researchers to attend the Gender and Health course and participate in the Gender in Research workshops at the Erasmus Summer Programme (ESP) from 18-22 August 2025. The course and workshop will be held at ErasmusMC in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Who can apply
Applicants for the Gender in Research Fellowship must be registered in a doctoral programme or be at the post-doctoral degree stage.
Applicants at the post-doctoral stage can only apply within 5 years after completing their PhD. Extension is possible in case of maternity/parental leave. If you wish to apply for extension, please contact ZonMw before submitting your application.
This funding opportunity is open to Dutch as well as non-Dutch applicants. Applicants do not need to be registered in a Dutch doctoral programme, be affiliated with a Dutch research institution and/or residing in The Netherlands to apply for this fellowship.
It is mandatory for Gender in Research Fellowship recipients to attend both the ESP Gender and Health course (course code ESP78) and the Gender in Research workshops (course code ESP79).*
Recipients of an Erasmus Summer Programme Fellowship are not eligible for a Gender in Research Fellowship.
* Please note: The total spots available for the ESP Gender in Research Workshops is 40. ESP will reserve 20 spots for the Gender in Research Fellowship recipients in the Gender and Health course and the Gender in Research workshops.

What to request
This funding opportunity has funds available to fund up to 20 fellowships.
Successful applicants will be able to reclaim additional expenses at up to a total fellowship amount of € 2,000/ € 2,500 (residing within Europe/ residing outside Europe). Registration fees and accommodation fees are part of the awarded fellowhsip amount and will therefore reduce the amount available for additional expenses.
The following additional expenses are considered eligible for funding received through this funding opportunity:

- Visa expenses (if applicable)
Budget
Maximum available budget per fellowship € 2,000 for applicants residing in Europe and € 2,500 for applicants residing outside of Europe.

When writing your grant application, please take account of the following:
- Your application must be written in English.
- Please use your first and last name as the title of your application in ZonMw’s online application system Mijn ZonMw.
- For planned start date and planned duration (in months), fill out ‘17-08-2025’ and ‘1’ respectively.
- Please enter your own name for all three required project members (main applicant, project leader, administrative representative).
- In the budget section, you need to give a summary of the budget. Please fill out € 2,000/ € 2,500 in 1.2 Material costs. You can leave the other parts empty.
- In section 4.1 Permits, please select ‘Not applicable’ for the questions regarding Positive opinion of an accredited METC or the CCMO, Animal Testing Project Permit (CCD/DEC), Permit under the Wbo.
- Relevant ZonMw grant terms and conditions apply.
- The fellowship is only applicable to the 2025 ESP Gender and Health course and Gender in Research workshops. Should the awardee be unable to attend the 2025 ESP Gender and Health and the Gender in Research workshops, the positive notice decision will be withdrawn.
