Climate and Health 2

The health effects of climate change are increasing worldwide. With the Climate and Health 2 programme, ZonMw funds research projects that study the health effects of climate change. The aim is to apply this knowledge directly by stimulating collaboration between research, policy and practice.

Background

In 2019, ZonMw commissioned the writing of a Climate and Health Knowledge Agenda. In 2021, 3 pilot studies started within the ZonMw programme Pilot studies on Climate and Health, which was based on the Climate and Health Knowledge Agenda.

Aim

The goal of the present programme is to develop clear advice, tools, aids and methodologies to reduce the burden of disease resulting from climate change.

Collaboration

These pilot studies laid the foundation for transdisciplinary collaboration and further research. The current grant call ‘Climate and Health 2’ provides an opportunity to the pilot projects to expand knowledge development and implementation on the themes of temperature-related health effects and allergies. This grant call was by invitation only.

GoHot consortium

The GoHot consortium was awarded a grant in 2024. The GoHot project will translate knowledge of health risks associated with heat and pollen into specific guidance to help reduce the burden of disease. ‘GoHot’ is an acronym of the Dutch for ‘healthy response to heat and pollen in a changing climate’.
