Register now for our 25 years ZonMw implementation symposium on September 26

ZonMw celebrates its 25th birthday. In those 25 years we have built up extensive knowledge of implementation. We think this is a good time to reflect and share, and we therefore cordially invite you on Tuesday 26 September for our Symposium 'Knowing HOW: 25 Years of Implementation Science and Practice'. The symposium can be attended either in person or online.

As a keynote speaker we're honored to listen to Tijn Kool, professor of Appropriate Care at the Radboudumc in Nijmegen. Originally, Tijn is a doctor and economist and has worked as hospital manager and consultant. In the past fifteen years, he has been involved in research into appropriate care, and especially inappropriate care and how to stop it. Together with doctors, nurses, patients and researchers, Tijn has gained a great deal of knowledge of and experience with the implementation of appropriate care and de-implementation of inappropriate care . Focus areas in his research are achieving sustainable effects and disseminating results. Tijn is involved in the operating organization of the Care Evaluation and Appropriate Use program on behalf of the university medical centers.

The second speaker we have invited is Femke van Nassau. She is a sports scientist and currently works as a senior researcher at the Department of Public and Occupational Health and the Amsterdam Public Health research institute at the Amsterdam UMC/VUmc in Amsterdam. Femke has a passion for implementation (research) and tries to connect practice, policy and research. She is particularly interested in scaling up interventions, matching determinants to strategies, and process evaluations. She is co-founder of the NIC and founder and chair of the Amsterdam Center for Implementation Science (AmsCIS).

Barbara van der Linden (ZonMw)

Barbara van der Linden - 25 jaar ZonMw

Barbara van der Linden is staff member Implementation at ZonMw and has been working for 20 years to close the gap between research results and their use in practice. She studied medicine and was a research and teaching assistant at the Julius Center for Patient-Oriented Research at UMC Utrecht. In 2001 she obtained her PhD on the subject of transmural care. Since 2004, Barbara has been encouraging implementation at ZonMw by asking herself how a research funder can make a maximum contribution to the use of knowledge from research. She is also a member of the board of the European Implementation Collaborative (EIC) as a representative of the Dutch Implementation Collective (NIC). Moreover, she strengthens international cooperation in this area as a member of the Ensuring Value in Research (EViR) Funders' Forum.

25 years of implementation

In ZonMw's 25 years of existence , implementation science and practice has evolved as a new and distinct field - with its own body of knowledge, tested practices and expert professionals. Since 1998, our knowledge on HOW to implement new research findings, HOW to change practice and therefore HOW to improve health and health care, has grown considerably.

We cordially invite you to celebrate our birthday with us and join us for a symposium in The Hague - live or online. We will share:

  • State of the art of Implementation Science worldwide
  • The Dutch Implementation Science agenda
  • Funders implementation practices
  • Inspiring Dissemination and Implementation examples
  • Future scaping of implementation science and practice

During this symposium you will not only meet people from ZonMw, but also people from the Netherlands and abroad from (implementation) science, practice, education, and policy.
