Communication about projects

Is your project part of one of our programme? We would like to inform you about the agreements concerning communication about your project. In addition, you will find instructions about writing project summaries, including our logos and house style guide.

Attribution

Stating the name of the Dutch Organisation for knowledge and innovation in health, healthcare and well-being (ZonMw) is a formal part of the grant conditions. . The breadth of activities in health research and healthcare is one of the characteristics of ZonMw. We want to be clear about this. We therefore ask you, as the project leader, to clearly state that the project was made possible, fully or in part, by ZonMw.

This means that for all products, such as websites, presentations, publications and databases, the funding by ZonMw is stated. With this, you should also state the file number/project number.

Example of attribution

  • Funded by the Dutch Organisation for knowledge and innovation in health, healthcare and well-being (ZonMw): 08391062310002.

Please note the correct spelling of the organisation’s name in English.

Brief description of our activities

You may, of course, provide a brief description of our organisation. For this, you should use the text provided below.

Working with knowledge to boost good health for all: that is what ZonMw is about. We programme and fund research and innovation in health, healthcare and well-being, promote the use of knowledge developed and highlight where knowledge is needed. Our main contractors are the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport and the Dutch Research Council (NWO).

Logos

You can use the ZonMw logo in presentations, printed materials, and other media. The logo can be downloaded in various file formats depending on the required use.  These can be found on the right-hand side of this page. A vector file or.ai file for printing materials can be requested via huisstijl@zonmw.nl.

Submission of products

Did your project yield products? Please submit these to us via ‘My ZonMw’. The products should not be submitted as physical reports or presentations, but as a URL to the products or as a DOI code. Please note: submitting your products is mandatory until 4 years after the completion of your project.

My ZonMw manuals

Are you looking for the My ZonMw manuals for the start or completion of your project? These can be found on the page My ZonMw.

Social Media

Do you use social media to promote your project? We are active on LinkedIn. Please follow our pages and like and share our messages. These are in Dutch.

We also value a mention in your messages of our social media handle @zonmw. Of course, we will help you increase your reach by liking or sharing these messages. We also have thematic LinkedIn pages to make your project-related news known to a specific target group. In this way, we contribute to increasing the impact of your project.

Press releases

Our press releases are always approved in advance by our spokesperson. In the case of press releases from third parties, we value an attribution and a short description of our activities as a condition for publication. For further press and media questions, please contact our spokesperson.

Cooperation interviews, blogs, vlogs and videos

We regularly commission interviews or the production of videos to explain projects and provide more background information about certain subjects. These interviews and videos are used for the website, meetings and our relations magazine Impuls. We also distribute these articles and videos via our newsletters and social media channels. You may be approached to participate in these activities as well. Participation is not mandatory, but we would value your contribution, of course.

Project description website

In principle, ZonMw publishes all projects on its website with a readable summary. This summary is intended for a broadly interested audience.

The summary provides a succinct description of the purpose/rationale of the project. The context of the project is described in a maximum 1.000 characters and answer at least the following questions:

  • Why do you want to do this project?
  • What results do you hope to achieve with this project?
  • Why is this project important for patients/clients and their relatives?
  • How will you carry out this project?

We would very much appreciate it if you would adhere to the house style guide when writing the project summaries. You can find this guide on the right-hand side of this page.

Corporate identity

Texts that are easy to understand, simple, and quick to find are important for visitors to our website. ZonMw provides tips and guidelines for everybody who writes texts for the website www.zonmw.nl.

  • Place the most important information at the beginning of the text.
  • Check the text for spelling mistakes.
  • ‘We’ form - Use ‘they’ instead of ‘we’ when writing. Then, it is clear to the reader that ZonMw is not carrying out the project.
  • Project titles - Write short project titles of no more than 100 characters, including spaces. These titles form the basis for the URL of the project page. Title lengths influence the findability of an online page.
  • Sentences - Write short sentences with a length of about 10 to 12 words.
  • Paragraphs - Write short paragraphs with a maximum of 6 lines.
  • Replace old-fashioned words with modern words.
  • Avoid difficult words or explain these.
  • Avoid professional terminology where possible.
  • Use bulleted summaries where necessary. This makes things clearer for the reader.
  • Minimise the use of foreign words where there are good English alternatives.
  • Use of brackets - Place words between brackets as little as possible. Use two sentences instead.
  • Avoid time indications such as ‘yesterday’, ‘shortly’ and ‘this autumn’.
  • Numbers and amounts up to 1 million are written in figures.
  • The notation for percentages: 10%.
  • Ordinal numbers are written in full. For example: second.
  • Types of schools and education are always written in lowercase except at the start of a sentence.
