Institutional Data Management Templates (DMP)
On this page, you will find information about Institutional Data Management Templates (DMP).
Please note: If your institute does not have a (proper) DMP template then you can use the DMP-template of ZonMw. You can find it at DMP online. Ensure that the most recent version of the DMP template is used.
Institutional DMP-templates
Many research institutes have an institutional DMP-template that, in addition to general DMP components, also refers to specific institutional facilities, guidelines or regulations. Using these templates, helps researchers to plan their datamanagement in accordance with the local situation at their institute. To prevent that researchers must write multiple DMPs, ZonMw accepts institutional DMP-templates of with universities, universities of applied science, university medical centres and other institutions if they adhere to the Science Europe Core Requirements for Data Management Plans.
Before the first of March 2026, institutes could get their templates approved by ZonMw. This led to DMP-templates of high quality. As the original goal, of raising the general quality of DMP-templates in the Netherlands, has been reached, ZonMw no longer approves DMP-templates.
Institutional templates must still:
- Comply with the Science Europe Core Requirements for Data Management Plans
- Include the name of the data steward who reviewed the DMP and the date of that consultation
The difference is that compliance with these requirements will no longer be checked at the template level by NWO or ZonMw, but remains the responsibility of the institution.
NWO and ZonMw will continue to require that a DMP is submitted and approved by their staff before the start of a project. If, during review, a DMP does not meet the required elements, it may be rejected.
The following institutional DMP templates have been acknowledged in the past
The institutions listed below have previously shared high-quality DMP templates with ZonMw. Contact details for the data stewards at these institutions are provided below. For questions about DMP templates, please contact openscience@zonmw.nl.
