Who can apply
Funding can be requested by researchers who have already obtained their doctorate or researchers who are in the process of obtaining their doctorate at a Dutch institution. The researcher must be employed by an organization, so-called public law or private law legal entity, which is located in the Netherlands.
- The main applicant is at least in a PhD program or has already obtained a PhD.
- The main applicant is also the project leader. If the main applicant has not yet obtained a PhD, the project leader must be the principal investigator (PI) of the underlying research project.
What for
This grant is for the Open Access publication of unpublished negative or neutral animal experimental results.This promotes transparency and avoids duplicate experiments. Results must be from solid research conducted after 2015.
What to request
The following activities may be funded from this grant.
- Only costs for activities incurred during the duration of the project are eligible.
- In this grant round, you can apply for a maximum of € 10,000 grant. The standard duration is 24 months.
- This grant amounts to an allowance for personnel costs and open-access publication costs.
- In this funding round you can apply for a maximum of € 5,000 for an allowance for salary costs for the person carrying out the project.
- You can include the costs for Open Access publication in the project budget under the item 'Open Access'. This can be up to a maximum of € 5,000 and is part of the total amount requested.
When
Applications for this call of proposal will be accepted on a rolling basis until 15 December 2025, 14:00 CET, and will be evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis. It is possible that the total available grant budget (the grant ceiling) may be reached before the deadline. In that case, the grant call closes earlier and this will be shown on this page.
Grant applications can only be submitted by the lead applicant through ZonMw's online submission system (My ZonMw). This grant call is continuous. The closing date is December 15, 2025, 14:00 CET. Grant applications can be submitted as long as the budget available for the call is not exhausted.

- Use the format 'Budget Other Institutions'. Make sure the budget is fully completed and correct. As applicant, you are responsible for this. If the budget is not correct the application does not meet the conditions and will be rejected.

- Write the application in English/Dutch
- Before you submit your application digitally, we advise you to print out a Word version of your application (via My ZonMw) and check it for irregularities. Especially if you first drafted your application in Word and then copied it to My ZonMw, it may happen that some characters (such as quotation marks) are not converted correctly. You can correct this yourself in My ZonMw.
