ZonMw congratulates the awarded Rubicon researchers!
The third Rubicon funding round 2025 allows NWO to enable a total of 13 talented researchers to gain research experience abroad, 3 of them are working in the medical scientific (ZonMw) domain.
The awarded ZonMw projects
This funding allows them to conduct their research at international institutes that offer the best environment for scientific development and growth as independent researchers.
The awarded ZonMw projects are those of Dr I. Paniagua Cabana, N. Doorn, and Dr X. Vergara Ucin. The projects range from improving the understanding of the role of the microenvironment on cancer cell dormancy, the development of a brain microcircuits-on-a-chip, and research into the heterogeneity in cancer cell phenotypes. Features of the Rubicon program
The Rubicon grant enables young researchers to conduct research at a foreign institute that offers the best environment for their research. The amount of funding depends on the chosen destination and the duration of the stay. With the 2025 rounds, NWO and ZonMw have funded 50 young researchers in total (for a total amount of almost 11 million euros, spread over 3 rounds). The awards from this article apply to the third round of 2025.
