Marijn van Ballegooijen and Sander Hilberink appointed as ZonMw board members
Marijn van Ballegooijen and Sander Hilberink are appointed as ZonMw board members with effect from 1 November 2022. They succeed Fawzia Nasrullah and Jacqueline Kool who have completed their terms of office.
The board members are officially appointed for a period of three years by the Minister for Health, Welfare and Sport and the Executive Board of the Dutch Research Council (NWO).

Marijn van Ballegooijen
Marijn van Ballegooijen will fulfil the position on the board for the profile board member (long-term) Care and/or social domain. He is an executive councillor with the portfolio Care & Welfare in the Municipality of Amstelveen and worked with a similar portfolio as a city district councillor in Amsterdam Zuid. Prior to this, Marijn worked as a researcher and senior adviser at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). This position gave him excellent insights into knowledge and research programming. He is also a member of the advisory group National Dementia Strategy at the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports. Marijn van Ballegooijen: 'The people responsible for providing care and realising welfare have a considerable need for solid knowledge about healthcare. I am therefore pleased that ZonMw connects scientific research with questions from the field.'
Sander Hilberink
ZonMw welcomes Sander Hilberink to the board for the profile Experiential expertise and participation. Sander is research lecturer Lifespan support needs across the spectrum of life at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. This research group focuses on ageing with life-long disabilities. Sander is well-versed in (policy) discussions concerning the possibilities of experiential expertise in research. His scientific activities within and contributions to both academic and practice-oriented research demonstrate his affinity and connection with the academic world.
With the arrival of Sander, ZonMw also more strongly embeds the perspective of higher professional education in the board. Sander Hilberink: 'Being a member of the ZonMw is an honourable position to further strengthen the role of citizens within healthcare and welfare research. I am pleased that I have been given the opportunity to fulfil this role within ZonMw.'
