Generative AI not allowed in ZonMw assessment processes
Until further notice, ZonMw had decided that the use of generative AI models in the assessment process by employees, referees, committee members and other assessor is not permitted. A confidentiality obligation applies to the assessment of applications, and this could be compromised. Therefore, nothing from the application may be entered into generative AI models by referees and other assessors.
Specifically for the assessment process, this means that it is not permitted to use generative AI models that are capable of;
- Generate texts based on a complex assignment, which appear convincing and use a certain context (for example ChatGPT) or
- Providing translations or checking spelling (for example DEEPL translate).
Outlook
ZonMw is aware that generative AI models are developing rapidly. And that generative AI models can potentially contribute to the further development of ZonMw application and assessment processes. For this reason, ZonMw is monitoring developments and is working, together with NWO, on new policy for the use of generative AI in its application and assessment processes.
