Aim of the call

  • Facilitate the dissemination of unique technological expertise in the Netherlands to other research groups/institutions/companies that have not worked with that technology before
  • To stimulate novel interactions among research groups and Technology Hotels and thereby contribute to the advancement of the used technology
  • To provide opportunities to advance the careers of scientists.
  • To encourage the use of advanced life sciences technologies in public-private partnerships
  • Propagate the use of data stewardship and data integration principles, methods and standards in advanced life sciences research projects

What can be applied for?

Access to high-end technologies can be applied for by scientists early in their career and scientists from a public-private partnership between academia and companies via the Technology Hotel concept. Technology Hotels provide access for researchers from outside their own institution to their high-end instruments and expertise that enable next generation life sciences research, covering a broad range of application areas in the life sciences, including clinical & health, nutrition, agro-genomics and industrial microbiology. Only new collaborations, meaning that the partners have not worked on the same technology before are eligible.

Additional criteria

  • The projects need to be carried out in the Netherlands within the domains of the Topsectors LSH, Agri & Food or Horticulture & Starting Materials.
  • The Hotel access has to be used to generate and integrate novel data for the groups concerned.
  • All applications must be in English.
  • Data should be published in an open access manner where possible.
  • Per main applicant only 1 Hotel project can be requested.

For Early Career Scientist Hotel projects the main applicant has to be a scientist from a Dutch public research organization that obtained his or her PhD in the period 2009-present. For Public-Private Hotel projects the main applicant has to be a scientist (PhD) from a Dutch public research organization and a company has to be a co-applicant.

The maximum ZonMw subsidy that can be requested is €30,000. The Hotel project has a fixed duration of 12 months. For Public-Private Hotel projects a company has to cofund minimally 10% of the requested ZonMw subsidy in cash and or in kind.
