The European Network for Traumatic Stress - Training & Practice

Projectomschrijving

The European Network for Traumatic Stress - Training and Practice (TENTS-TP) aims to widely disseminate and implement evidence based practice for those affected by traumatic events that promotes social inclusion throughout the entire European region. It will achieve this by developing guidelines that effectively integrate mental health promotion and disorder prevention into the training and practice of professionals in mental health and social services. The final aim is to raise levels of knowledge and expertise of the end users of this project (mental health and social service professionals) which will result in improved services to those affected by traumatic events. Professionals responsible for teaching and training in this field will be identified, provided with a bespoke evidence based practice teaching package and equipped to implement this in a sustainable manner in partner countries. The strategic relevance of TENTS-TP lies in the added value that integrated guidelines on posttrauma psychosocial care will bring to the existing knowledge and practice of mental health and social professionals. As a result, TENTS-TP will improve resiliency within member and partner countries through enabling them to appropriately manage the psychosocial consequences of traumatic events. It will use methods including systematically reviewing the field of interest to establish the evidence base, the Delphi process to achieve consensus, and mapping and needs analysis to inform the development of comprehensive educational resources. A teaching the teachers educational programme will be developed comprising face to face, locally delivered teaching and e-learning packages accessible via the TENTS website. In order to examine and map relevant content of existing undergraduate and post-graduate courses in the field of mental health and social services in all EU-countries involved, the associated partners will liaise with their contacts in the already developed network of local services. Through this network potentially important training and teaching institutions and professionals responsible for teaching and training in this field across all regions will be identified. In particular Eastern and Southern countries including several post conflict areas will be actively involved in the project. Educational materials that expand and improve the teaching packages created during the TENTS project will be developed by addressing feedback from users of those packages guided by state of the art educational principles and practices. Particular attention will be paid to developing a comprehensive e-learning platform that can host a combination of techniques including discussion boards, web-based teaching materials for the delivery of instructional materials, healthcare (clinical) simulation, a learning management system (LMS) and tools for computer aided assessments of mental health problems. This will maximise the number of individuals who are able to benefit from the materials and will make dissemination and implementation more extensive than it would be without such a platform. The expected outcomes include: 1) training and practice guidelines for professionals based on the previous TENTS project's evidence based psychosocial care guidelines; 2) a core TENTS-TP curriculum; 3) high-standard educational materials (e.g. DVD's, workbooks), tailored to different cultures and languages across Europe; 4) best practice guidance for combating social exclusion of people with mental health problems secondary to type 1 trauma; 5) an e-learning platform on the TENTS website; 6) A 'Teach the Teachers' workshop disseminated in all participant countries; 7) An established European network of ‘teachers'. TENTS-TP will integrate the work of other European projects in the field of psychosocial support for trauma victims into the guidelines to ensure a consistent approach across Europe by including leaders of these projects as collaborating partners. These other European projects are EUTOPA, EFPA and ENPS and NATO.
