Samenvatting van de aanvraag
The overall aim of this proposed study is to develop and evaluate an optimal educational intervention for parents with a high risk of having asthmatic children. The education has to meet the specific barriers which individual parents experience in performing a combination of preventive measures. To be able to develop this tailor-made educational program, focus group interviews are conducted involving participants of a previous project (Prevention Fund 26-146) who have experience with such preventive measures. Important determinants of preventive behaviour will be assessed and these results will be used to develop new educational materials and messages. Hereafter the refined prevention educational intervention is provided by community health nurses to 50 newly selected parents who have a child with a high risk of developing asthma. The evaluation of the effects of the renewed educational program on the degree of adherence with the advised measures will be performed in this phase.
