The SALIG project creates ICT-based solutions that support cognitive impaired elderly in orientating and navigating through space and time, optionally as add-ons to assistive technologies for supervision of well-being towards relatives and others. The target group of SALIG consists of healthy elderly (>65y old)with(out) light physical or psychological health deficiencies but self supporting and able to move around. In additions, family, caregivers, and professionals are included as a secondary group to the primary target group of elderly. Last but not least, industry and insurances and government are targeted in order to implement and facilitate the take-up and realisation of the SALIG concept.

SALIG creates seamless support for indoors and outdoors cognitive and well-being support via (mobile) device and application interfaces. The support reduces the cognitive load and facilitates navigation in order to prolong and enhance mobility of individuals. In addition, well-being and safety are likewise aspects of mobility guaranteed by the support system through monitoring everyday items and equipment and communications means with others users in the loop such that they are properly used and that nothing is forgotten, such a refrigerator, stove, shower, etc., and automatically turned off when leaving. Other users (i.e., elderly, family, caregivers, and professionals) interact with services through smart phones, smart TVs, and a personal sensing device, which wirelessly stay in touch with

the ambience in the home or in public places (e.g., in buildings with residences that provide assisted living services).

SALIG is 36 month project staged in three phases involving end-users in each step. The SALIG services and system is set up to involve users from requirements to interaction design, followed by evaluations with end-users, carried out in two locations (Spain and the Netherlands) aiming different objectives – support aspects and cultural aspects, respectively. The outcomes are input to business assessment entailing development of business models, identification of new roles and models for the developed applications, dissemination of results, and determining market maturity of the SALIG concept / technology. After the first years prototype tests the SALIG applications and services are ready to be marketed. In the second year and third year these applications and services are extended

and fine-tuned to meet the SLAs of the various customer groups and the medical regulations in the various countries. The first commercially available SALIG applications and services on market are foreseen not more than two years after project termination. The consortium is committed to open-standard solutions and a consensus way-of-working around this approach. SALIG services, applications and interfaces are thereby safeguarded to evolve with changing requirements and needs. The consortium has strong and well-balanced scientific, technical, and market expertise to realize the project objectives and potential for exploitation.
