Samenvatting van de aanvraag
This project aims to promote the health of asylum seekers in The Netherlands while they are
awaiting the official outcome of their asylum application. The Healthy Cities approach will be applied to
the setting of the asylum seekers centre involving the residents and professionals in the centre as
well as the local (medical) professionals and volunteers living outside the centre. This community
approach will lead to a programme of health promotion and health education activities specifically
suited to the needs and wishes of asylum seekers. At a national level, the professional organisations
responsible for health promotion and education, the national organisation of municipal health
authorities, and national organisations for asylum seekers will combine their expertise and
experience to implement existing methods of health promotion for immigrants or, depending on the
specific wishes and needs, stimulate development of new materials and methods which can be used
within the setting of a residential centre for asylum seekers. All activity plans and evaluations
will immediately be made available to other centres.
