Samenvatting van de aanvraag
The Antillean and Aruban community experiences problems with sexual health, in particular a high level of STDs, a rising number of HIV infections and relatively more teenage pregancies and abortions. Important determinants of sexual behaviour in this community are social norms, perceived suspectibility, self-efficay, gender and power. The central research question is: what will be the effect of a peer-led community intervention on the sexual health status of Antilleans and Arubans in Rotterdam. In co-operation with the Antillean and Aruban community an intervention will be developed which will consist of mass media campaign, gender- and age-specific workshops, training for social and community workers and general practitioners and community events. These activities will address the different determinants. Using a panel-design 500 respondents will be interviewed twice about knowledge, attitudes, personal and social norms, behaviour and behavioural intentions. Using multivariate analysis the effects of the intervention will be assessed.
