Gravitation

The Gravitation programme brings researchers from a single discipline or from several disciplines together in consortia and facilitates innovation, excellence and the international positioning of Dutch research. These consortia belong to the world’s best in their research field or have the potential to join it.

Encouragement of excellent research

With Gravitation, the government encourages excellent research in the Netherlands. The programme is for scientific consortia that have the potential to rank among the world's best in their field. The programme is a form of direct government research funding. ZonMw assesses and selects the applications in cooperation with NWO. The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science funds the programme.

Purpose and objectives

Gravitation is intended for consortia of scientists who conduct innovative and influential research within their professional discipline. The purpose is to encourage research programmes to achieve international breakthroughs.
