Any personal data collected through this site is used only for the purpose for which you submitted it.
ZonMw only uses your personal data for the purpose for which you provide it. So if you enter your name and address to receive a publication, for example, these details will not be used to send you anything else unless you have indicated otherwise. Nor will we use your personal data for other purposes, such as distributing press releases.
We do, however, reserve the right to allow use of your data for investigative purposes, to trace the source in the event that a criminal offence is committed using our site or illegal content is disseminated through it, as well as in other situations as allowed by Article 43 of the Dutch Personal
Data Protection Act. Personal data is retained for no longer than is necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. Please read our privacy statement for full details of how ZonMw handles your data, as well as your rights in this respect.
The Personal Data Protection Act (Wet bescherming persoonsgegevens, Wbp) was a Dutch statute to safeguard privacy online and in the digital domain in general. Its scope included data processed through government websites and those of public-sector bodies like ZonMw. The act was enforced by the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).View or download the Personal Data Protection Act at overheid.nl.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) entered force on 25 May 2018 to harmonise privacy legislation throughout the European Union. As such, it has now superseded the Dutch Wbp.
Personal data is all information about an identified or identifiable individual. That is, anything specific or traceable back to them. Obvious examples include a person’s name, address and telephone number, or even just their postcode and house number. Sensitive details such as a person's race, religion or state of health are classified as ‘special categories of personal data’ and are subject to additional legal protections.
Many of the websites you view store small text files known as ‘cookies’ on your computer. This makes it recognisable to the site during your visit and whenever you return.
Certain cookies are necessary to remember settings or personal preferences during a visit to a website or when you return to it another time. At zonmw.nl, the cookie PHPSESSID is used to facilitate online orders. It keeps track of what publications are in your shopping trolley. If you do not accept this cookie, the website may become harder or even impossible to use.
These tell us what pages you view, which helps us to better tailor the website to visitor behaviour. Similar cookies are also used for other purposes, such as conducting online surveys.
Zonmw.nl uses Google Analytics to monitor traffic on the website. For example, visitor numbers, popular topics and visit durations. This enables us to adapt the site’s operation and content to the needs of our visitors. Zonmw.nl cannot see who (what PC) is accessing the website, but Google may provide this information to third parties processing the data on its behalf or if legally required to do so. We have no influence over this.

On certain parts of the website, third-party cookies enable useful additional functions. For example, a Google map with interactive directions, a Facebook ‘Like’ button
or the possibility to tweet a page. The cookies speed up use of such ‘added extras’ because they eliminate the need to log into Google, Facebook or Twitter separately. We have no control over what these platforms do with the cookies.
If you do not want cookies placed on your computer, you can disable them in the settings of your internet browser. For more information about cookies and disabling them, visit the National Cyber Security Centrum.
