Programma: Healthy nutrition
Healthy nutrition
Launch: 2009
Duration: 4 years
Budget: 4 million euros
The aim of the programme is to get a better understanding of how healthy dietary patterns – with and without functional nutrients – can help prevent diet-related chronic diseases that impose a major burden on society.
Specific goals include:
- a better understanding of how nutrients actually or potentially help people achieve a healthy dietary pattern;
- a better understanding of the extent to which product modifications actually or potentially help people achieve a healthy dietary pattern;
- a better understanding of the links between eating patterns and the initiation of chronic disease, including metabolic programming;
- a deeper understanding of how consumers can best be encouraged to make healthy eating choices. One objective linked to this is to improve our understanding of the determinants of consumer food choice behaviour.
Target groups
The programme targets the entire population in their role as consumers, with a particular focus on people with low socioeconomic status, young people and the elderly (living independently or in care institutions).
